Racing and Winning Starting back in 1954, the success of Yoshimura as one of the world’s largest performance aftermarket sportbike exhaust companies didn’t happen overnight. Founded by Hideo Yoshimura, or “Pops”, as he was known by, he started out with a few dedicated employees working in a small race shop. The shop was quick at pumping out fast race car and bike motors, the reputation of “Yoshimura-built” motors grew and he soon created a cult-like following among racing enthusiasts. With this momentum Pops turned his attention to the U.S. In the mid 70’s, Yoshimura R&D of America Inc. was up and running and the new American division was building a reputation just as strong as its parent company had in Japan. In the early days of Yoshimura R&D, legendary tracks such as Daytona and Loudon were the proving ground for the “new kids on the block.” The granddaddy of them all, Daytona, was where the Yoshi crew staked its claim. The bikes held up to the punishing high banks of Daytona and the power was there! Senior Vice President, Don Sakakura, has been running the racing efforts for many years now. Starting as a mechanic, Don rose through the ranks to the level where today he is running one of the largest racing efforts in America. Don oversees the day to day operation of the Team Yoshimura Suzuki Road Race Team with riders Mladin, Spies, and Hayden. Don also oversees Yoshimura’s motocross and supercross collaboration with Team Suzuki, Team Honda support, Team Rockstar Suzuki and Team 199 with rider Travis Pastrana. Don has been instrumental in the many championships that Yoshimura has won over the years and there are many more to be won on the horizon. Pops decided to return home and oversee things there, his son Fujio took up the reins helping to further solidify the Yoshimura name in the history books of American roadracing. Through the late 70’s and early 80’s, Fujio’s creative foresight and innovative design helped Yoshimura R&D of America Inc. to become a leader in the art and science of sportbike performance technology. When Pops decided to retire, Fujio headed back home to run Yoshimura Japan. In his place, Suehiro Watanabe, or “Nabe”, became the head of Yoshimura R&D of America. Nabe was not only an accomplished mechanic but he had an intuitive understanding of the manufacturing process. He has developed many new manufacturing techniques, which have helped put Yoshimura at the forefront of the aftermarket exhaust industry. |

Yoshimura Exhaust Systems - What's New With The King?
Hideo "Pops" Yoshimura started the company back in 1954. Yoshimura had a humble beginning. From the original shop in Japan, however, a seed was planted and it started to grow.
The reputation of Yoshimura grew quickly. The motorcycle and racecar engines Pops built were very quick. Soon he had a following of diehard racers. In the seventies, Pops came to America and started up the American division of his company. Yoshimura R&D of America was born and places like Daytona, Loudon, and Brainerd haven't been the same since. The Yoshimura approach to racing proved very successful. The attention to detail and passion for perfection was instilled in every employee from day one. The products were clearly a cut above the competition and the business grew.
The formula was then, and is now, very simple really, "Concentrate on nothing but performance, quality, and fit... the business will come." Yoshimura today has the same basic formula. While companies come and go trying all sorts of clever marketing plans and developing inferior products, Yoshimura tjust keeps growing. Our customers know that there will never be compromise with our products. They also know that our knowledge comes straight from the racetrack to our customer. Pops knew product and he knew racing. In the world of Yoshimura, that's all that counts. Pops' son Fujio took over the business here in the USA and Pops returned to Japan to concentrate on the market there. When Pops decided it was time to take it a little easy, Fujio went back to Japan to oversee the overall Yoshimura operations.
Suehiro "Nabe" Watanabe took over the reigns of Yoshimura R&D of America and Don Sakakura was promoted to race team manager.
Nabe came up through the ranks at Yoshimura. He started out as a race mechanic and now runs the largest sportbike pipe manufacturing business in the world.
Nabe was blessed with a fundamental understanding of the manufacturing process and has innovated numerous techniques in manufacturing, production, and racing exhaust design. The sum of these innovations is leadership in one of the most competitive segments of the aftermarket.
Don Sakakura is spending more and more time in the day-to-day operations of the company. While still managing the team to three straight Superbike titles, he is heavily involved in the overall management role of the company. The faces may change at Yoshimura but one thing remains constant, a devotion to racing and building products capable of winning. Yoshimura puts racing first, business second. As it turns out, this philosophy has insured our business success.
